Clear Aligner – an alternative to traditional braces
2023/11/14

Clear Aligner is a popular alternative to traditional braces. These are clear, nearly invisible aligners, making the treatment process discreet. The aligners derive their pressure force from the attachments – available in three sizes: 0.5mm, 0.625mm, and 0.75mm, each exerting different forces. Additional support can be provided through elastic pulls and Power Grips. Clear Aligner trays are commonly used to treat diastema (gaps) and crowding, as well as open bite, deep bite, or crossbite. Before commencing treatment with aligners, the dentist conducts an interview with the patient and performs bite models and diagnostic tests.
HOW LONG DOES CLEAR ALIGNER TREATMENT TAKE?
The duration of Clear Aligner treatment depends on factors such as the specific malocclusion the patient has. Patient commitment and consistency in wearing the aligners also play a vital role. Generally, Clear Aligner treatment is expected to be shorter than traditional braces. In the treatment process, changing aligners is crucial. Each aligner is worn for about a week. After completing a cycle, progress is assessed, and the next set of aligners is provided. The treatment concludes with retention, where the patient wears a retainer to prevent relapse of the condition and stabilize the treatment results.
CLEAR ALIGNER – PROS AND CONS
One of the advantages of Clear Aligner treatment is the previously mentioned aesthetics. Additionally, these aligners do not hinder speech, and wearing them is not associated with discomfort. Patients also experience minimal to no pain. The absence of wires prevents mucosal irritation in the oral cavity. A significant benefit is that the aligners can be easily removed, aiding in maintaining a high level of oral hygiene. Clear Aligners also do not trigger allergic reactions due to their biocompatibility. Another advantage is the relatively shorter treatment duration. The only drawback of Clear Aligner treatment is that not every orthodontic issue can be resolved using this method. It is essential to consult with an orthodontist to determine the suitability of this treatment approach. Additionally, Clear Aligner treatment is generally recommended for patients above the age of 16.
