Orthodontic Treatment with Braces
Fixed orthodontic braces are applied directly to the teeth for a period of approximately 1-2 years. The braces consist of multiple components, with the most important being the brackets attached to the teeth. These brackets hold the archwire, a bent wire that exerts force on the patient’s teeth, causing them to move. The archwire is secured to the brackets using ligatures. Self-ligating braces, which do not require ligatures, are also available on the market. Various elements of the braces can be made from materials like titanium, stainless steel, nickel, gold, porcelain, or crystal. Follow-up appointments are typically scheduled every 4-6 weeks.
