Tooth Whitening

After a prior visit and consultation with the dentist, the patient performs the procedure at home. Home whitening removes discoloration only from live teeth. All fillings, restorations, and crowns do not change their color. The whitening process starts with taking impressions of the upper and lower jaw, based on which the patient receives silicone trays with compartments for the whitening gel. The gel is applied to the inner surface of the front walls of the tray, targeting the front portion of the teeth for whitening. After the procedure, teeth are lightened by several shades. Healthy, unfilled teeth respond best to whitening. Often, after whitening, fillings need to be replaced to match the new shade of the brighter teeth.
