Piezosurgery is an ultrasonic device used for cutting and processing hard tissues. It is mainly employed in implantology, maxillofacial surgery, dental surgery, and orthodontics.

APPLICATION OF PIEZOSURGERY IN DENTISTRY

Implantology and dental surgery:

  • tooth extraction;
  • apex resection;
  • removal of cysts;
  • bone tissue harvesting for bone defect reconstruction in the jaw or mandible during implantation procedures;
  • bone separation in cases of alveolar ridge cleavage;
  • lifting of the maxillary sinus floor in cases of alveolar ridge atrophy.

Orthodontics:

  • treatment of malocclusion. Procedures using ultrasonic waves accelerate the correct positioning of teeth.

Maxillofacial surgery:

  • all procedures requiring cutting of hard tissues.

ADVANTAGES OF PIEZOSURGERY

The greatest advantage of piezosurgery devices is their exceptional safety and precision during surgical tissue processing. Additionally, the operating surgeon minimally traumatizes tissues, resulting in significant reduction of swelling and postoperative pain. Compared to traditional methods and devices, piezosurgery does not emit heat during operation, thus preventing overheating of the operated tissues. Piezosurgery devices reduce bleeding in the surgical field. Surgical intervention with piezosurgery devices additionally “cleanses” tissues of pathogenic microorganisms.
