Veneers – are they worth it?
2023/09/12

Veneers are thin, single sheets attached to the front surface of teeth using a special adhesive. They provide a quick and painless way to improve the color and shape of teeth, allowing patients with minor bite issues to avoid orthodontic treatment. The best and most durable veneers are made of ceramics or porcelain, closely resembling natural teeth.
ARE VENEERS RIGHT FOR ME?
Veneers are recommended especially for those who want to improve the shape of their teeth and mask discolorations that don’t disappear despite teeth whitening attempts. This prosthetic restoration is a great solution for people with a diastema and those with minor bite irregularities.
Unfortunately, veneers are not suitable for people suffering from bruxism. Thin veneers can crack due to clenching and grinding of teeth. People with a habit of nail-biting should also refrain from getting veneers. A dentist will refuse to place veneers on individuals with poor oral hygiene and those with cavities.
HOW ARE VENEERS APPLIED?
Veneers can be applied when the patient has healthy and treated teeth. Therefore, before the planned procedure, the dentist conducts a detailed interview and performs examinations, including panoramic X-rays, to exclude all contraindications.
Before starting prosthetic treatment, an intraoral scan is taken in the dental office, based on which a dental technician creates a veneer design. Thanks to modern technology, the patient can see the final result through a mock-up, which is a prototype of the final work. At this stage of treatment, we take photos for approval.
Next, the dentist grinds the teeth. This is done under local anesthesia, so the procedure is painless. Sometimes, grinding is not necessary, depending on the desired aesthetic effect.
While waiting for the finished work, which takes about 2-3 weeks to complete, the patient is provided with temporary replacements. The final stage, completing the procedure, is the cementing of the finished veneers using a special adhesive.
IS IT WORTH INVESTING IN VENEERS?
Veneers are a solution that can be perfectly tailored to the expectations and needs of every patient. If you want to enjoy your dream smile, it’s worth scheduling a consultation with a dentist.
